![]() this is generally considered EASIER than just flooring the entire cavern pool up. Also, the cavern dwellers have better gear usually, lots of iron and some steel. The only real reason to do this is because your dorfs keep drowning trying to kill the cavern dwellers that don't drown but keep coming because the Cavern dweller siege mechanic means they just keep coming until you have hundreds and hundreds of cavern dwellers eating your FPS. If you leave the floodgates unwalled they are BD bait, you have to wall them up to keep them up. That will make the map edge go to 7/7 with no flow/no FPS drop. then wall up the floodgates on top of the stairwells that are the 2nd block in. Keep going until you have floodgates all the way, close them. Then link up some levers to open those floodgates so you can keep building the other floodgates. It's a bit finicky but you will get a couple in usually. Then using pause/unpause for the water in each block to be at 1/7 level designate flood gates in that 1 block between the map edge and the Down Stairwell. The water will flow down and out the fortification.Įventually all the water in the cavern will flow out and you will just get water coming in the map edge. ![]() They will mine out a hole under the water. ![]() Then once all the bottom stairs are done redesignate the top portion of the stairs. Designate the stairs then delete the top one until you get all the bottom stairs dug out. Then, once everything is all set you dig stairs up from the bottom room. If the map edge where the water is coming in is wide you will want 2-3 of these wide undug walls under the water with a 1 block wide passage between. Then you dig out at least 1 more 1 block wide passage leaving a block wide long undug column the 2nd block away from the map edge. ![]() you dig out a 1 block wide passage next to the map edge under the map edge where the water comes in, smooth the map edge walls, then fortify them. If you ever want to drain the caverns, which is dumb but doable. ![]()
